Infernal Triangles
The definition of a great puzzle is simplicity, with many permutations.
Infernal Triangles: geometric puzzles built on four colours
The author, John Dore, has developed just that, based on combinations of four colours in sectored triangles. Building on the work of great recreational mathematicians of the past, Infernal Triangles presents the puzzler with a set of 24 triangles.
Each triangle is divided into coloured sectors: the order of the colours decides where a piece can sit. These geometric puzzles reward careful looking as much as quick thinking.
How an Infernal Triangles puzzle works
The challenge is to use those sets to match the shapes and colour patterns presented in the book. Some puzzles are simple, some are not.
In practice, you turn and test each triangle until its edges line up with its neighbours. This builds spatial reasoning and patient, systematic checking of possibilities.
Who will enjoy these triangle puzzles
For anyone who likes visual puzzles, especially mathematical ones, Infernal Triangles are fun and challenging. The difference lies in the format: you solve them alone with the pieces in front of you, unlike puzzle games played against an opponent.
Start with one of the simpler shapes and lay out all 24 triangles beside the book. Watch how quickly the colour patterns narrow down your choices.
